Avon House's philosophy is that every resident is an individual and care needs are addressed on this basis. Information is gathered from relatives soon after admission on the person’s life and family. This allows carers to better understand the individual and treat them with a greater degree of sensitivity and understanding.
Our staff are selected for their kindness and patience and ability to care for people with dementia. This careful selection process and on-going training and assessment is a comfort to relatives who understandably are very worried about entrusting love ones to the care of others.
Our Registered Manager, Michele Gerrish has been with Cobham Care since 1998, working at our sister home Avon Manor before moving to Avon House in 2017. Her roles have included night carer, day carer and senior carer so she is very much aware of the roles oand responsibilities of her team.
Michele is qualified to Level 5. and has spent many years in the care sector. She keeps abreast of the latest developments in dementia care.
We employ 28 care staff with a range of NVQ qualification levels up to level 5. All are provided with on-going training in First Aid, Manual Handling, Understanding Dementia, Protection of Vulnerable Adults and other relevant subjects.
